Today’s Reading: Acts 14

18 Even saying these things, they hardly stopped the multitudes from making a sacrifice to them. 19 But some Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there, and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.

–Acts 14:18-19, World English Bible

Ever have one of those days?

One group wants to raise you up. Make you a god. Make sacrifices to you.

Another group wants to stone you. Drag you out of the city. Leave you for dead.

Chapter 14 of Acts is one of those chapters that leave you speechless.

Highs. Lows. Nothing in between.

I guess it’s good history writing. Just the facts, ma’am. Moving on.

But just damn. Some days really are like this.

You’re on a roll. Preaching this. Saying that. A lame guy gets up and walks. Then the rest want to stone you. WTF?

Can’t we all just get along? Can’t you just see the good works and move along?

I’m in a season where God is doing some pretty amazing things through me. And the rest of the crowd wants to stone me…

Jesus warned me. Said that when I did the things of Jesus the crowd would want to stone me. Mark me. Judge me. Put me before the courts. Kill me.

Lowest common denominator. Cutting down the high grass to meet the low grass. It’s what society does.

Level playing field.

Just damn.

Lord Jesus, I start this day and I’m very tired. Tired of doing the things of Jesus. It’s heavy lifting.

Lord, forgive me. Forgive me of my weakness. Forgive me for being a pussy.

Lord, help me suck it up. Help me be a brother to you, a sister to you, a mother to you. Your clan.

You’re a badass.

Help me say the things that need saying. Help me do the things that need doing. And when one side of the populous wants to make me a god, help me point to you and say, “We’ve already got a God!”

And when the other side of the populous wants to stone me, help me persevere. Help me live. Help me stand up after the beating and just walk away.

On to the next assignment.

On to the next encounter with an Almighty God.
