David loved men.
“I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.”
–2 Kings 1:26, King James Bible
Many have said that this is an outstanding example of same-sex friendship.
Many have alluded to the possibility of a homoerotic relationship between two men.
Many have made the case for this relationship being homosexual.
All I know is that David loved men, and that he said that Jonthan’s love for him was wonderful, passing the love of women.
HOWTO: Dude, I don’t know what to say. Friends? Fans of each other? Fags? Forget about it–I have no idea. All I know and understand is that David loved Jonathan and Jonathan loved David.
AVOIDING TOXIC MASCULINITY: Awareness. Aware that there can be same-sex friendships that go beyond. Beyond what? Depends on the two people involved.
INTHESHIT RESPONSE: I never knew what sexual orientation sat next to me in the locker room. I can tell you that I was once molested in a locker room. That will put your head on a swivel and keep your eyes wide open. I suppose that in a military setting it would be similar.
BACKHOME RESPONSE: Live and let live.
